Who we are?
For a number of years, a small group had been meeting with the Derby City Council Bereavement Services Manager and a ward locality manager to try and establish a Friends of the Cemetery group.
A Facebook group was created in July of 2023 and posts on the history of the cemetery and its interesting occupants began.
The first meeting in the present format was held in November 2023 and a Chair of the group was elected.
Since then a Committee has been formed with a Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Meetings are held bi-monthly with an AGM in November.
This website has been initially funded with a grant from Foundation Derbyshire.
Many locations in the cemetery have been marked using the What 3 Words App.
This is free to use on your phone and downloadable from the Apple store and Google Play store.
For example the First Burial in the Cemetery can be found using these 3 words in the App.

If you would like to have access to the Friends saved list of interesting graves and locations in the cemetery, send us the email address that you use to log into the w3w App. We will then send you a link that will update as we add more locations.
Graves and locations described on the website have a w3w locator at the top of the page.
