BROWN, Daisy Winifred. CH/PM. WW2. CWGC.

Died 17/03/1943 Age 20. Aircraftwoman 2nd Class, Women's Auxiliary Air Force, Service Number 2063996.

Daisy Winifred BROWN was born on 15 September 1922 and her birth was registered in Derby in the autumn of 1922. Her parents were Albert (also known as Arthur) Brown and Florence Daisy Brown (nee Bailey) who were married in 1909 in Derby and who in the 1911 Census were living at 38 Bath Street, Derby.

The 1921 Census, before Daisy Winnifred BROWN was born in 1922, has the family living at 10, Darley Lane, Derby. With Albert and Florence BROWN were their three sons at the time, Charles, William and James. A second daughter, Elizabeth BROWN, was born in 1925.

In 1939 Daisy Winifred BROWN was living at The New Inn, King Street, Derby and employed there as a chambermaid waitress.

Both Albert and Florence Daisy BROWN had already died when their son James died on 8 July 1940 in the Sanatorium, Derby.

On 17 March 1943 Daisy Winifred BROWN died whilst she was an Aircraftwoman 2nd Class based at Lossiemouth, Moray in Scotland with 46 Maintenance Unit of RAF Maintenance Command.

Her funeral service was held on Monday 22nd March 1943 at St Alkmund’s Church, Derby, followed by burial at Nottingham Road Cemetery.
