DEXTER, Charles. PM. WW1. CWGC.

Died 27/06/1917 Age 27. Private, Middlesex Regiment, 17th Bn. Service Number F/15. Son of George and Harriett Dexter, of 19, Augusta St., Derby. Born at Crewton, Derby. His brother Harold also fell.

Charles Dexter was born in Crewton, Derby and played football for Brighton and Hove Albion before WW1.

He joined the 17th (Service) Battalion (1st Football) of the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment),

He returned from France in early 1916 with septic poisoning and spent several months in hospital in Exeter and Torquay before medical discharge on 10 April 1916. He sadly died a year later.

Charles’s brother Harold joined the Royal Field Artillery and served in the 1st Derby Battery of the 4th North Midland Brigade. He died 2nd August 1920.
