Died 14/07/1916 Age 25. Private, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment), 1st/5th Bn. Service Number 2355. Son of Samuel and Betsy Yeomans, of 32, Werburgh St., Derby. Died at Netley Hospital.
Samuel Herbert YEOMANS was born in Derby in late 1890, the first son of Samuel Yeomans and Betsy Yeomans (nee Lee) who had married in Derby on 6 July 1884. They already had one daughter, Harriet Yeomans. In 1901 the family were living at 142 Abbey Street, Derby, and Samuel had one older and two younger sisters and two younger brothers. By 1911 Samuel had left the family home, living with his now married sister Harriet Blount (nee Yeomans) and her family at 18 Warner Street, Derby. Samuel Herbert YEOMANS was working as a factory hand in a hosiery factory.
Samuel YEOMANS enlisted in Derby and served in France. He was repatriated to the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley, near Southampton, where he died on 14 July 1916. He was buried 18 July 1916 in Plot B5/16851.
Samuel YEOMANS was awarded the 1914-15 Star Medal, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
By 1921 Samuel’s parents Samuel and Betsy Yeomans lived at 32 Werberg Street, Derby.
